Is there a difference-- any difference-- between “writer’s block” and “not having anything to say?”

  1. Yes.  In the first case, you have the strong feeling that somewhere in the dark recesses of your mind, there is in fact something trying to get out.  You just can’t get to it, and so you surf the web and play minesweeper.

In the second case, you don’t agonize as much, and go straight to the web and minesweeper.

  2. Of course there is, Johno my friend!

Writer’s Block means you WANT to write, goddammit!  You sit there fuming at the blank page/screen.  You keep getting up to do something else, all the while hating yourself because you know you SHOULD and WANT TO BE writing.

Not having anything to say means you could care less if you write or spend seven hours playing Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal.

  3. Ahhh.. but what if you want to write, are *trying* to write, and even have something to say, but spend 3000 words spinning your wheels weakly without ever getting to the point? Repeatedly?
